MusHus

When tasked with reimagining a toy, I took marbles as a starting point. Rather than attempt to reimagine the marble itself, I focused more on the string often used in marble games to a define the bounds of a play area. Laying out the string has the effect of miniaturizing the world, transforming a patch of dirt into complex landscape. Small divets and mounds become serious obstacles to consider when shooting one’s marble.

With this in mind, I created a set of accessories to create a more elaborate miniature world to play marbles within. Using the simple analogy of a cat and mouse chase, the play set features six wooden “cheese” blocks and two collapsable entrances for cat and mice respectively, all of which fit neatly into a compact cardboard box. A set of braided ropes connect to the entrances to define a portable play arena for playing Mus Hus, a fun turn-based game of cat and mouse.
